Feel Free to Ignore This Out of Character Post

I'm not going to share my own opinions on the whole USA Afghanistan/Iraq/Warish thing, and I'm not asking for yours. (I like to keep my blog environment somewhat happier and I don't want to start drama)

But anyway. I'm sure you have seen the news... Saddam being prepared for the gallows. I had a reaction that I didn't expect out of myself. I cried. Not only did I cry, I got hysterical. I don't really know why. I don't think its because of HIM, but just seeing someone preparing to die. It's sad. I'm kind of an overly emotional person. I mean -I understand its his sentence(and why) and I understand reasons for and against the death penalty. But still, it's sad. A person dying. I know he has done a lot of horrible things, but still the thought makes me cry.

Why do they put it on TV? I know people want "proof" and I know I don't have to watch it. But how can you not?

I'm feeling some VERY mixed emotions. I think I'm overly deprived of sleep.

Yikes. Feel free to ignore this out of character post.

I Kid You Not

My arms and shoulders are hurting from the all the Wii action the past two nights. What a workout.

Friday Flashback

My mom used to work at YFU. Youth For Understanding. It is a high school student exchange program. We hosted several exchange students over the years. At times we would have two, because someone would be leaving their host family for whatever reason. My mom sort of ran it, so we got the "problem" exchange students - the ones who didn't like their families or the ones that didn't get placed yet. (We only had one leave us, our first one) My family could get kind of rowdy, so that didn't mesh well with a couple of them.

Mai (pronounced as "My") was one of our Exchange students that we sort of got along with. She was very quite and reserved from what I remember. I think she spent alot of time in her room. I do think she stayed the whole year. Right mom?? Anyway - Digging through some old boxes of mine I found these letters she sent before she came.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I tried to make it so you can read them okay, but the paper was very thinn and the scanner I used sucks! haha. But anyway I thought the letters were fun.

We hosted Students from all over. Venezuela, Brazil, two from Japan, Germany, one from Sweden...and other places I don't remember! So many of them stick out in my mind... they were like brothers and sisters! We keep in touch with one somewhat often, another one here and there randomly... but we have lost contact with a lot of them, which is kind of sad :-(

Gingerbread house

This is the top of our gingerbread house. I did the left and my older sister did the right. MY side IS BETTER. Don't you think :-)

The house is also sitting on a CD coffee table I made a few years ago.

I think it's amazing how much better we can all get along now that we aren't living together! Me and my sister even got eachother the same thing. With out knowing at all!

There I am concentrating. On my first ever Gingerbread House. Did you make one this year?

How to Mess Your Room Up in 10 Easy Steps

In no particular order:

1. Kick off your shoes. Right in the middle of the floor.
2. Eat. Leave wrappers and dirty dishes everywhere.
3. Watch movies. Leave the cases everywhere.
4. Listen to music. Change Cd's Often. Leave them everywhere.
5. Work on the computer. Toss messed up papers from the printer on the floor.
6. Try Looking for something. Anything. You will swear its there and turn the place upside down.
7. Read a magazine. Rip out any pages that seem interesting. Be sure to place them in the middle of the floor.
8.Pick out an outfit. Finding something to wear often includes changing you mind multiple times.
9. Do anything creative or crafty.
10. Attempt to clean. It only ends up worse doesn't it?

I seem to find myself cleaning my room EVERYDAY. I think it would be a lot easier if I just did things as I went.

Any additions to my list?

Flashback Friday (yeah I know it's not friday)

I'm going to start posting "Flashbacks" on Fridays. My flashbacks may include, pictures, letters, games, toys, traditions, people.... anything that I remember about my past.

HERE IS A PREVIEW!

Today's flashback is a picture of me in the 4th grade. (Click here to compare to Senior year of high school)

I had Ms. Leach in the fourth grade. I hated her. She was the first teacher that made me feel stupid. It was something about spelling. She was a mean old lady who had nothing better to do than drive us poor kids crazy. I'm sure we have all had a teacher or two like that.

Anyway. Looking back at this picture I'm reminded of the dress I'm wearing. It was a skort, well, a dress/skort. not a "skirt" Anyway. I remember feeling really self conscious because I thought it was too short and revealing... look at those shoulders! When I look at this picture, and I'm sure when My mom does to.... I think about how I NEVER smiled for pictures. I think this was the year my mom said "I'm paying for pictures you better smile" So this is what she got. A half smile. I was a really shy kid.

Well that's it for today's Flashback.

I want that long hair back.

Helen's Blog

I really recommend that you take a moment to check out Helen's Blog.

Read around.... then scroll to the bottom!

Merry Christmas!

I didn't have a "traditional" Christmas this year. My family is all over the U.S., so it makes it hard. However in just a few short days my older sister will come up from FL for a visit and my grandparents will be down from MI.

Though it wasn't your typical Christmas - me and one of my friends decided to hang out and "cook"

We had Hamburger Helper and Tatar-Tots. Yum. (yeah it kinda looks gross) This is about all the cooking I can do. It was fun to hang out, listen to music and cook. We ate, then cleaned up at watched some movies.

I recommend Little Miss Sunshine, I cried. However.... I cry for just about every movie I watch. I think that is what lets me know if its a good movie or not. It I'm not laughing or crying it's just not worth watching. I also recommend Just Friends. I have watched this like 5 or 6 times and it is still funny.

Any movie Recommendations.... I don't have to work ALL week ;-)

Ouch!

I went out with a bunch of girls from high school for our annual Christmas get together last night. We all dressed up and went to Brio for dinner then out the bar. I was reminded why I never dress up. The shoes. They hurt. ANY dress shoe. I much prefer my good ol' flip flops or gym shoes. To bad that isn't "in".
These shoes are SO cute, who cares if I have a blister or two? I DO. Ouch.

Also, I think its crazy that 4 years later we can still get almost the whole group (9 of us i think last night) together.

Do any of you keep in contact with friends from highschool? Have you reunited with any lost friends lately? Is there someone you've been meaning to look up?

He also is pretty good at drawing, even if it is just for a study break.

Well what are you waiting for! Go check it out! And you should link to him on your page. Here's Why.

A Real Christmas Story

HONG KONG (Reuters) - A Hong Kong schoolboy who died in a traffic accident has brought festive hope to at least seven other patients through the rare mass donation of a large number of his vital organs.
Fourteen-year-old Miu Chi-ho died from brain injuries after being hit by a bus several days ago, but doctors were ....

I found it interesting that donating organs was frowned upon in Hong Kong. If I were ever in a situation when I wouldn't live but I could still help others, I would want to. I give it to the Mother of this boy for standing up and doing what what she felt was right. It's moving.

I also wonder if receiving donated organs is frowned upon. Surely those who think donating is bad, would change their mind when and if they ever became in need.

Strangely enough, I just finished up a class this past quarter "Interculteral Communication"
Isn't it interesting the differences between cultures? There are some things that are hard to comprehend and understand. I guess that's what makes the world interesting.

It was a good one!

I had a very Happy Birthday thanks to all of my wonderful friends. 22... no biggie, the next "milestone" is when I'm 25 and my car insurance is lower :-)

For some reason I think it is attractive to leave my mouth hanging wide open. Stupid.

Mom. Pretend you don't see this picture. ;-)

Check it out.

Here is a fun blog to look at when you have some time, and I even start you out with a fun post. I came across this website while browsing around Thechnorati...

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things That Happened in History Today (My Birthday)

(1)
1620 - The Mayflower, and its passengers, pilgrims from England, landed at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts.

(2)
1849 - The first ice-skating club in America was formed -- in Philadelphia, PA.

(3)
1913 - Readers of the New York World Sunday edition were treated to a crossword puzzle as an added feature of the Fun supplement.

(4)
1914 - Marie Dressler, Charlie Chaplin, Mabel Normand and Mack Swain appeared in the first six-reel, feature-length comedy. The film was directed by Mack Sennett and was lovingly titled, Tillie’s Punctured Romance.

(5)
1944 - Horse racing was banned in the United States until after World War II.

(6)
1945 - U.S. General George Patton died in a German hospital this day. ‘Old Blood and Guts’, whose Third Army swept across France and into Germany after the Normandy Invasion, had been injured in a car crash near Mannheim, Germany twelve days earlier. He is buried among the soldiers who died in the Battle of the Bulge in Hamm, Luxembourg.

(7)
1966 - The Beach Boys received a gold record for the single, Good Vibrations. A-one, and a-two and... “...I’m pickin’ up good vibrations. She’s givin’ me excitations...”

(8)
1967 - The Rolling Stones LP, Their Satanic Majesties Request, was released. It cost $50,000 to produce and came complete with a 3-D photograph of the Stones on the cover.

(9)
1981 - Cincinnati defeated Bradley 75-73 in seven overtimes! The game became the longest collegiate basketball game in the history of NCAA Division I competition. The marathon game was played in Peoria, IL. If it can play there... it can play anywhere!

(10)
1984*- Erika Was Born

(11)
1985 - Bruce Springsteen’s album, Born in the USA, passed Michael Jackson’s Thriller to become the second longest-lasting LP in the top 10. It stayed there for 79 weeks. Only The Sound of Music, with Julie Andrews, lasted longer: 109 weeks.

(12)
1988 - Pan Am World Airways Flight 103 was the target of a terrorist attack this day. The jet exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland killing 259 passengers and crew, plus eleven people who were on the ground at the site of the crash. (In Jan 2001 Libyan Abdel Baset Ali Mohmed Al-Megrahi was found guilty of planting the bomb that blew up the plane.)

(13)
1991 - The Soviet Union formally ceased to exist and was dissolved into Russia and fourteen other independent countries. The U.S. supported the change and pledged to extend as much help as possible to the new Russian state under Boris Yeltsin.

I'm it.... again

He got me again!

1 ) What have you learned so far from your visitors?
They are all as addicted to this as i am :-)

2 ) If someone would offer to pay a course (or more) for you, what that course would be?
A Course in Sky Diving, Race car Driving, Snorkeling and anything else not school related.

3 ) Are you satisfied with what you’ve achieved this year, in general?
I'm never satisfied.

4 ) Did blogging changed your life or your personality in any way?
No, but it has given me a way to channel my boredom.

5 ) If you had the opportunity to meet one person that you admire the
most in the world, who that person would be?
I am fascinated by the famous, but I in no way admire them. I admire my mother, and believe it or not... i have met her before!

The rules of the game:

You will be asked 5 questions and if you choose to participate and answer, then you will have to pass it on to 5 other people, although everyone is free to participate.
The questions you are passing on can be any questions you like but you can’t change question number 5.
If, you don’t like a question you are being asked (except no.5) or you can’t answer a question, you are then free to change that question with your own.

I Tag... Those of you who haven't been tagged.

Tip of the Day

Santa!

I was running some errands today when I passed this Santa on a motorcycle. He was parked in font of an apartment complex entrance sitting on his motorcycle waving to passing cars. When I saw this and passed him, there was a huge smile on my face. I love the Christmas spirit! Something this small can make me smile. Anyway, I passed him and waved back, dropped of my videos and headed back. I was going to pass him again... this time I would take a picture with my camera phone (which as you can see... sucks). Traffic was stop and go, so I figured I could snap a quick one.

*Snap*.... I get a picture of a tree... "Oh no I'm going to miss him"

*Snap* Yey! I got him!

*BANG* What the heck was that??

Bad Santa. You caused an accident. Luckily it wasn't me (I'm SUCH a good drive i can take pictures and drive at the same time!). The car in from of me hit the car in front of them.

I then drove on to Burger King and ordered some lunch "Can I have a number 7, oh and no coke in my ice please." hahaha, boy did I feel like an idiot. My subconscious really did not want me to have that COKE. Yeah, the one I shouldn't have been ordering :-/

Here is why you shouldn't order ice in your drinks.

What is with this weather?

It is unseasonably warm. It's 54*F, 12*C. What the heck? Didn't it just SNOW last week? Ohhh Cincinnati. How I love thee. Hey, atleast I can open my windows and get some fresh air! That makes me happy.

This crazy weather reminds me of a time in high school. Snow-Rollers formed across Loveland. They were so neat, and very rare. If you have some time check out THIS site. It's brief, but there are some pictures!

Let's All Take a Moment to Reflect.....

... I'm really not THIS weird. Honest. But this is what happens when you are locked-up. (I’m on call this weekend where I CA(like and RA)so I can't leaveeeeee and I desperately NEED to!) I think its evil to coop someone up the weekend after finals :-/

P.S. You are all very STRONGLY encouraged to post a picture of a reflection of yourself. Be creative! ... post the link to yours here!

Red River Gorge

Dymock posted about a Gorge. It reminded me when me and my sister went to Red River Gorge in Kentucky. Then I remembered this video. Ha. i thought it would be funny to share. You can all have a good laugh at my fat as$ falling :-D

(this was like 4 years ago. It is so stupid, but funny... atleast I know mom will love it!)

Learning is too hard. It could be easier.

Sing this to "Pop Goes the Weasel''

"X equals negative B plus or minus square root of B squared minus 4 A C All over 2 A"

Congratulations, you have just sung the quadratic formula. I learned this my freshman year of high school. Now I'm in my senior year of college, haven't taken a math class in 2 years, and STILL know it.

I really think there is money in this idea. Take a song everybody knows and put some knowledge into it. Weird Al does it, but not in an educational way.

I think about this idea every time I hear a really old song to and sing the words perfectly. With all the stuff that goes on in one day and the things that have happened over the years, how do I remember all the words to that song. It's crazy how the mind works.

Don't you think it would be more beneficial to remember the things I need to know for my exam rather than the words to "Baby Got Back"?

Now I just have to think of some good examples.... any ideas?

Bored.

No pretty sunsets here. I'm facing the wrong direction, and well... I think a nice sunset must include a beach or a mountain. Somrthing involving nature. I snapped this picture at about 5:10pm this evening (through my dirty window). I think its neat how I'm in the dark (or in the shadows at least) before the rest of campus.

Super Stench.

So after a LONG day of work I decided to get my butt in gear and do a little Christmas shopping. I found myself stumbling into good old Super WalMart (hey I'm a college student, I can't afford the high-end stuff).

Anyway, As soon as the automatic doors did there thing, I was greeted by a nice blast of warm air... and a horrible smell. Ugh. I don’t know how to describe it, but it wasn't good.

So I thought to my self, "Ugh that lady just FARTED and I am RIGHT behind her. How rude." As I scrambled to pass her I started to notice the smell was not going away. I started heading to the other side of the store because the smell was making me woozy.

I did some quick shopping and asked the cashier, "Does you management know about THAT smell?!" She just replied that "Oh yeah... that, they are working on it."

So as I'm walking out of the store I decided that the smell could be natural gas. Or some kind of gas... (It wasn't from no rear-end though). I know they put an odor in with natural gas so that it can be detected.... I just don't know what it smells like. So I decided to call the fire department and report it. After all, it was bad enough to give me a splitting headache.

So I did a little searching. And I do think I was right.... I do think it was natural gas because rotten eggs and sulfur where two things that came to mind while I was shopping.... I did call the fire department back to see if it was anything, they said they went and checked it out and didn't find anything. Hmmmm...

Muthaf*er

Okay MY turn to rant and be pissed off.

Don't visit this guys Blog.

I was a little worried this morning because I went to this guys blog and saw my template. Which is cool. I know it was a free one off the internet. But he even changed the top tabs into a personal message like i did (or the template they are just links or whatever). So that kinda was wierd, but whatever. and I commented about it, and he ended up changing it. So that made me feel better.

Then I went to his other blog (the one pictured) and saw the same words at the top... "Please make your mark! It is a great way to visualize all my visitors not to mention a "plug" for yourself if you include your website." Hmm I think tha's on my blog. Maybe, just maybe.

And then see in his post about bone. He so copy and pasted "bone's blog. He has a challlenge for you." Its in MY FONT. not likt he rest of his post. (this whole thing I don't care about as much as the thing on the top.)

It's like F*ing middleschool all over agian. I hate when people cheat off me. ARGGGG.

(I feel your pain now skittles, atleast he wasnt copying my content.)

Its Official

I'm on the way Back To My Old Self.

Here's my stab at it...(I am NO writer)

On one of the many streets in New York dead that night, he sat alone on the curb. Waiting for the bus he could hear the roars of the Times Square crowd in the distance. It started to snow as the bus pulled up. A one way ticket out of the town. A destination unknown. He smiled as he saw the reflection of the red stoplight in the rearview mirror.

“Getting my fat a$S in shape.”

New Years Resolutions Any One?

I'm not the type to make them, and when I do, I'm not the type to keep them. I think that's why they suck.

This year however I'm going to make one (a very typical one too). Only because I have to, and I have to be successful at it! I'm going into the police academy next January (2008) and I’m WAY out of shape. So my resolution this year will be titled "Getting my fat a$S in shape." I have a whole year to complete it (Well really only 10 months because there is a pre-physical test in October). I haven't really worked out the details as far as diet and amount of exercise, I just hope to improve. I know that I need to start out slow; I'm not the same person I was in H.S. I know that I CANNOT run a mile in 7:30 anymore :-(

I will keep you posted.

Do you normally make new years resolutions? Even been successful? What are your's for next year? Is it way to early to be thinking about this?

Christmas "Tree"

Okay ONE more post b4 I get back to studying.

Here is my dorm Christmas "tree". I made the face with dry erase marker!

Exams Exams Go away, Come Back Another Day!

Monday Starts Exam Week for those of us at the University of Cincinnati. Don't expect many posts, as I will be TRYING to study. Problem is, I'm the worlds worst procrastinator (right now I should be studying).

Tonight will qualify as an all-nighter for Psychology of the Criminal Mind, and Lofthouse Cookies and Coke will help me through it.

What was you most hated class in highschool and or college? Ever pull an all-nighter?

Be afraid be very afraid - or NOT.

So the bathroom situation still sucks.

So here's what i did.

It says "Don't Be afraid, A little cleaning wont kill you."
Does this make me a total bitch? Haha!

A Little Ketchup With My Mustard? No Thank You.

So I was running late for work, and when I got into my car I got a huge whff of ketchup. I looked to my passenger side floor, see a fast-foodbag and think to myself, "Well that's what you get for leaving it in there Erika. Way to go!"

And then I turned on my head lights and saw...

This.

This was done by a BOTTLE not packets. There for this (in my opinion) required some type of premeditation. Also, my car faces a wall. They had to walk around to the front of my car to do all this $hit. Though I don't know but I would figure there is some kind of significance to it being on the driver side too.

I think it was a resident who doesn't like me (only because they don't KNOW me). I tried looking back at the tapes but it was useless.

Fock.

Who does this $hit? For real. UGH.

Also. It took two carwashes to get it all off.

Pudding.

If I have to un-prop one more Focking door i'm going to SCREAM

"Castle" Hall #th Floor Residents,

As exam week approaches I would like to wish you all good-luck on your exams. Please remember to keep the noise level down, as many of your fellow neighbors are studying.

I would like to remind all of you that you may not, under any circumstances, prop open any exterior doors. The fee for propping doors is $50. Please remember that you are under surveillance in the building. We do live in Clifton, propping the doors open puts the safety of all residents at risk.

Also, all guests must be accompanied at all times. This too has become a problem. This includes any residents left in your room for an extended period of time. Again, I do not know how to stress the safety risks concerning this issue. I can program your name into the call box by the front door so guests can notify you upon arrival. Local cell phones and/or your room phone can be programmed into the system.

If you plan on going home over Winter Break please complete the following before you leave:

  • Take out your trash.

  • Clean out your fridge (food that will spoil), Leave your fridge plugged in.

  • Check your mail.

  • Close your blinds.

  • Un-plug plugs (leave the fridge plugged in).

  • Turn off lights.

  • Lock all doors (room AND suite).

Thank you,
Erika
