Look What I Made - Book Clock

So I was stumbling one fine afternoon when I came across a neat little craft. I always find crafts that I want to make, but this was one I could make! I found the craft/directions here.

I thought this clock would be a great gift for my friend Jessica, since she is a school teacher and her birthday was coming up. Though she only teaches first grade - and I'm not really sure if 1st graders know how to or learn to tell time at that age... it was still cute! The first picture of the example was even her favorite book too... though I did need to call her and oddly ask "what is your favorite childrens book?." After I got that answer, I went to work.

No need to really explain in detail how I did it. There are again, directions here. I did make a few modifications. I wanted to conceal the "boxy part" of the clock. Knowing she already owned this book and wouldn't need it for reading, I cut a hole through the middle of the pages... it seemed to conceal the "box" more and allow the pages to spread out - as the book is propped open to stand up.

I also didn't put on all the numbers. It just looked odd and blocked the picture too much for my taste. So instead for 1,2,4,5,7,8,10 & 11 i used the little clear nubs that go on the bottom of things to keep them from scratching the table. I think it turned out good, it allows you to see the picture and still gives you something to reference the time with!

So, what do you think?

  1. It's WAY cuter in real life! Did she get it yet?

  2. That clock is full of awesome!
