*CLOSED* CONTEST- Nifty Pear *Closed*

Sorry you missed it! This contest is CLOSED.

As you know I've been working on stuff for my friend's Bridal Shower. Well, I've been having issues deciding on an invitation. I didn't really find much at any physical store and the ones online weren't the right color or quantity... I started to get worried... If I don't send out invites, no one will know and no one will come! What is a bridal shower without party people?

Etsy. duh. I wish I would have thought about it sooner. I browsed and browsed Etsy looking for a perfect card. Finally I found it! Simple. Cute. Personalized.

The card to the right is the one I decided on... though the colors weren't exactly what I wanted - No problem though! I just contacted Megan, the creator of Nifty Pear. She was more than willing to work with me on personalization and quote a price for the quantity I needed. She got back to me the same night! That is unheard of with larger commercial stores or websites. AND the next day I had a proof in my e-mail!

If you ever need a card, invitation or some stationary I highly recommend The Nifty Pear. The products are *super* cute!

So... lets get to the "contest" part...

Megan was nice enough to collaborate with me on this contest. She is providing 6 pack sampler of cards for the winner. All you have to is enter. Here is the 411....

Every US resident is eligible - even if you don't have a blog! just be sure to tell me what you have done and leave an e-mail addy!

To Enter

*Visit The Nifty Pear and have a look around. Come back here and post a comment with the name of the item from the shop that was your favorite. (1 entry)

For additional entries

*Tweet about and link to this contest on your Twitter account...(1 entry)

*Post about this contest on your blog. (2 possible entries max --> 1 entry for linking back to erikajean.com, 1 entry for linking to www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5366698)

Contest Ends November 30th! Winner Announced December 1st!

Ugh.

I was talking to my mom the other day... she was saying how she wanted a new layout for her blog... and I DO TOO.

I'm just bored with this one! I wish I had some skill in designing... maybe I can get my sister to do it for me... hehehe (what I really want is for her to send me Photoshop/illustrator, so I can customize some things).

Until then - I may be switching to a basic template or be trying various things!

Update: I think I really like this layout... Though I want to play with it a little more and customize it!

Fridaday Flashback - Where Where You?

I'm sure we all can remember where were were when certain significant moments of history happened. I can too.

But what haunts me most is a childrens book that I read in 3rd grade during some free reading time... I remember sitting on the tan square tiled floor facing the bookshelf in front of the windows that faced the playground in Mrs. Frasier's room. When I got to the end of the book... my jaw dropped. Surely this was not a book meant for my eyes. Someone DIED. In a HORRIBLE way. I remember the simple illustrations of a tall lanky girl with a green ribbon around her neck. I want to sy she was in a green dress too.

Anyway. I did some googling... the story goes something like this:

The Girl with the Green Ribbon

There was this girl long ago who had a green ribbon around her neck. There was a boy in her class named Rick who liked her a little more then a little. Rick asked her, “Why do you where that green ribbon around your neck?”
She said to him happily, “Perhaps some day I shall tell you.”

The girl and Rick went out on a date. On the date he asked her, “Now will you tell me why you where that green ribbon around your neck?”
She said to him happily, “Perhaps some day I shall tell you.”

The years went by and they got married. On their wedding night Rick asked her, “Now will you tell me why you where that green ribbon around your neck?”
She said to him happily, “Perhaps some day I shall tell you.”

A few years after the wedding they had some kids. Rick asked her, “Now will you tell me why you where that green ribbon around your neck?”
She said to him happily, “Perhaps some day I shall tell you.”

Then long after their marriage and when their children were all grown up. They were both old and feeble the girl was very sick and the doctor said she was going to die. Rick asked her in their final moments together, “Now will you tell me why you where that green ribbon around your neck?”

She said to him in a whispery voice, “You can take it off now.”
He pulled the ribbon off her neck and her head fell off.

Personal Trainer (A late Tipsy Tuesday)

Today I signed up with a personal trainer! Hopefully it will help me get into gear. I always tell myself I will go to the gym, but I hardly ever make it. Even if I do, I walk a little and then get bored and go home. I also find the weight machines to be confusing and kind of intimidating so I rarely try them. Even if I do, I don't know what weight to pick or how many reps to do. So yeah, I kind of suck at the gym.

I think if I went to the gym everyday knowing what I had to get done and had someone to check in with every once an an while it would help out. Direction. I think that is what I'm lacking (but hopefully not anymore!)

So I start with her on December 8th. The plan is to meet with her every week at first and then probably every two weeks once I get into the swing of things! I'll keep you posted (probably about how much pain I'm in!)

Waiting on Things...

I'm waiting on my Capture Cincinnati book. I want it NOW! I don't think I'm in it but have run across a few blogger that are and I would like to check it out! The receipt said it'd ship n the 20th, and the website says the 24th, so who knows when it will get here! see some of my pictures here)

I also need my Birth certificate to come in the mail its been forever.... So to that city in Ohio... Could ya hurry up a little bit? I need to get my passport!!

Waiting for my sister to upload at least ONE picture from her trip (Australia)! At lease she called me today. She went surfing today and has been hang-gliding. and something whit a dolphin and seal (swam kissed? IDK) So not fair!

I wish things would happen a little faster! Ughhh.

Off to babysit for the evening.... Toodles.

McWhat?

Much to McDonald's dismay, the word "McJob" has been added to the latest Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, which defines the word as "low paying and dead-end work." Predictably, McDonald's is threatening legal action in an effort to get the word dumped. McDuh.

Yahoo Answers

How do you waste time? Facebook? Myspace? Stumble? Something else? Or are you just a special person with no time to waste?

... I've been having fun on Yahoo Answers. People ask stupid questions so I give them stupid answers... sometimes they aren't too stupid and I give them a reasonable answer...

You get points for answering questions and more points if your answer was picked as the best answer. You get negative points for asking a question, but it becomes positive if you select a best answer.

I'm very tempted to think of a really dumb question to ask just for fun.... any ideas?

I Pardon you Mr. Turkey, but as for your Friends...

Please please listen to the broadcasters warning - and don't blame me if you choose to watch this video.

I do think she's a bit of a tool... and I find this a bit ironic.. but to the guy in the back ground - you are a CREEP!!

Friday Flashback - I'm a BAD Writer.

I found this to be pretty funny. I might be the only one finding it funny too. Oh well.

I found this story on my moms old computer. I think it is from sophomore year of high school. that would have been 2000-2001 ish. Wow. My two really good friends at the time and myself are the stars. My guess is that it is post 9/11 because I used the word terrorist - I probably didn't know the word before that. It was probably also around the time people started freaking out about on-line predators.

Please enjoy my horrible horrible story (and my present day commentary). I'm sure I was told to write a story with a dilemma, heroes or something of that sort....

Spring Break

Our parents wouldn’t buy us plane tickets to Hawaii. In that case, Christina, Heather and I decided to take our Spring break into our own hands. We weren’t going to be the only ones not going on the Senior Trip (oh how I longed to be a SENIOR).

We carefully plotted our trip for two months. The twins’ Hyundai Tiburon (for reals) was going to be our ride to San Diego, California (I guarantee I had to look this up on a map- as well as the location and spelling of Hawaii). Upon arrival in San Diego (we) were going to meet my long-time Internet friend (I think this qualifies as foreshadowing), Brian, who owned a large yacht and would help us on the boat ride over.

It was understood that this trip was going to take longer than the allotted time for spring break. There was no way of getting out of school excused and we knew our parents wouldn’t let us go if we told them about our idea, so we ran away (it was that simple). We left on March 15th, two weeks before our ten-day Spring break. In Total, we had thirty-four days to make the trip (I think I did my math incorrectly).

The driving portion was a whole new experience. We were forced to stop at intimidating truck stops and run down “last chance” gas stations. Enticed by the tourist traps we stopped at; the Largest Cowboy Boot, the Largest Ball of Twin(e), and Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum (The weirdest thing I could think of apparently). The driving task was less laborious (some one used a thesaurus) because we had three drivers. It was easy to switch when one of us became tired.

Meeting Brian absolutely left me dumb struck (meaning I just figured out how retarded we were). When we met him at the San Diego Waffle House (EW), we quickly realized that (he) was not 19. He looked to be well into his forties. However, he did seem nice and he did have a yacht (well, in that case, who gives a shit!). Christina, Heather and I had a small discussion and we decided to stick with our plan. We boarded Brian’s Yacht, “The Conqueror”(haha this just cracks me up!) on March 19th (hey that is the Twin's B-day!).

Brains attitude quickly changed once we set off for Hawaii. It was almost like he was hibernating. He didn’t go out on the deck in the day, nor did he let us. When he was on the computer he was always yelling at us to be quiet he was trying to think (of how he could lure more retarded teenagers). We were forbidden to be in his office, room or play on his computer. It felt like we were imprisoned (I want my mommy!).

Heather, Christina and I had all lost our wits. We were miserable and we had been cooped up inside of the yacht for about a week. Early one morning, Heather gave Brian a piece of her mind. She was yelling at him saying that we should be there by now. She was calling him every name in the book, and even the ones that weren’t (OOooo, fiesty). She must have pushed Brian to his limits… He pulled a pistol from his belt and pointed it at us. He was yelling in an unfamiliar language. Before we knew it, all three of us were locked in to the tiny bathroom (hey at least we had a place to pee and water to drink!).

We (k)new we had to get out of there, that man had a gun (no shit Sherlock!). There was a small window about the size of a breadbox (haha). It was our only escape. Unfortunately we had nowhere to escape to. We though of many ideas, the first few were way too impractical (I really want to know what they were though!!). The next couple we decent, but we were afraid Brian would hear things, such as the shattering of glass.

We never came up with a set plan, but that worked out just fine. It was really quiet one night; we figured that Brian was asleep. Things just seemed to work. I took off my shoe and shattered the window with its hard heel. We were quiet for a moment to see if Brian heard. He did not. It was night and we had to quickly think of a way to be seen. There was one way and only one way, fire. The three off us began to work (I say the three of us, but apparently Heather did not help). Christina took the hair dryer out from under the counter and plugged it in. I took of my tee shirt and held it extremely close to the drier. It seemed like an eternity before it caught on fire, but it was only about a minute in actuality. I hung the blazing shirt outside the window from a jagged piece of glass (SO risky and SO brave). All we could do was sit there (especially Heather), watch the smoke rise and pray to God that someone out there would see our signal.

It turns out some one did see our signal; it was the U.S. Cost Guard (Damn, I was hoping for Pirates or Brad Pitt). They stormed the boat and came to our rescue. They notified our families and questioned us about the incident. We later found out that “Brian” was one of the men on the Most Wanted Terrorists list (GHASP). When we arrived home we were known as teenage heroines. We helped catch one of the World’s most feared villains. Everyone was thanking and congratulating us, even our parents. Lucky for us, our parents were too caught up in our fame and glory (Kind of like Goonies). They seemed to look past the fact that we ran away, drove across country and met up with a guy that I met online.

The three of us received a handsome reward for our efforts. We divided it up and each had more than enough to make the trip to Hawaii by plane. Since we got home before spring break started we did just that. We flew to Hawaii, and burnt a lovely hole in our pockets with all the cash that we had (We also me up with my internet friend bob. He promised to show us around town in his limo).

Music on Blogs

I've been meaning to write this post for some time...

It might just be me, but I'm sure it isn't. I absolutely CAN NOT STAND music on a blog. The first thing I do is frantically search for the pause button. It's never in the same place either. Unless your blog is absolutely great, I probably wont be back!! Google reader sort of eliminates the problem - but if I want to come leave a comment, I'm still going to have to listen to it.

A few reasons it's annoying...
*I usually have my sound all the way up from watching YouTube videos, So when I come i get BLASTED.
*50-75% of the time, I do NOT enjoy the same music as you. Please to not force your horrible music choices on me!
*Depending on the day, I hear a few words... then get the "buffering" notice... and hear a few more words.

The ONLY way its OK.
*If it does not automatically play upon me visiting.

Take the poll and tell me what you think!

Homeless.

While living near the University of Cincinnati, I saw my fair share of homeless people - though I never quite understood it. Isn't it a widely known fact that most college students are in debt? Sure I just came out of the bookstore where I dropped a good 500 bucks... and I might seem wealthy walking out of that bookstore with multiple heavy bags - but to all you homeless out there, and I'm SO sure you are reading this... it is just an illusion!

Anyway my "point" of starting out telling you about the homeless in Cincinnati, was to tell you that there are much more here in Tucson (warmer!)... and I wanted to tell you something that made me chuckle (but it is in fact rather sad)....

Yesterday I was outside my mom's office building waiting for her so we could go to lunch. As I was sitting on the bench, I saw a homeless man approaching. He stopped at the first trashcan, looked in, and went for a grab. He pulled out a big gulp and popped off the lid (WHY? was he concerned about germs? Um Hello you are digging in a DUMPSTER). He gulped, kept the cup and kept walking. He stopped at the next trashcan, looked in and went for a grab. He pulled out a half smoked cigarette. He stuck it between his lips and walked off around the corner. I thought the whole thing was rather odd, but I wasn't surprised. You gotta do what you gotta do. As I'm talking to my mom on the phone, letting her know where I am... I see the homeless man walking back around the corner - with a HUGE honkin' sandwich in his mouth. Score.

Hehe. I don't know why, but watching his search for lunch made me chuckle. I wasn't laughing at him; I just found the whole thing pretty interesting.

Oh and I also wanted to tell you about the Can Man on campus. I would often see him Saturday and Sunday mornings. He was actually pretty nice. I small talked with him a couple times in passing. Anyway, he'd visit the frat houses and whatnot and fill up his garbage bags for recycling. I don't think the frat guys minded too much - It was free cleanup for loose cans and emptying of the trashcans for the next night of partying. The last time I talked to him, he was beaming because some guys had given him the last few beers of a six pack.... So, I think this man was a genius. Well, maybe not - but he sure was clever. Word on the street was that he got money for the aluminum in the cans... but here is the great thing. The money he got was based on weight. So he would stick pebbles in the cans and then squish them. Hahaha. I love it. Sure it's ripping of the system - but what do I care. The man is recycling!!

Be On The Lookout

Be on the lookout for a contest. I hope to get it up by Friday or Saturday.

P.S. Cincinnatians, have you ordered the BOOK? I scrounged up the money and did. I wasn't going to.... but no longer living in the area... I needed a piece of it. I'm looking forwrd to its future arrival.

I'm Famous.

I got another picture on the news today :-) It was on the morning news, and at 5... I didn't watch the 10. Its like the 5th-ish photo I've gotten on. Haven't take pics of all of them I think there is 1, maybe 2 I didn't feel like getting the camera for.

What's in a Name?

If you could change your name what would it be?

This kid decided on a superhero theme. Look at the picture - yep, that is his name.

Apparently Grandma isn't so happy about it.

See the story here.

Tipsy Tuesday

I 100% started back on my diet yesterday.

I'm Tippin' the scales at 219 lbs (on Sunday)

Yikes.

Now when I say diet... I don't mean anything crazy like only eating meat, only drinking orange juice or fasting or any other weird "diet" that is out there. I plan to count calories with the help of CalorieKing.com. I did it a few weeks when I first moved to Tucson and lost the poundage pretty quickly... but somewhere along the way I lost focus.

Based on my weight, age and level of activity Calorie King gives me a projected calorie target for each day (1463). I do a combo of planning what foods I'm going to eat for the day, logging as I go and logging at the end of the day to keep track. If I exercise and burn calories... I have to make those calories back up by eating something. So the - and + calories still need to balance themselves out to 1463. I guess that kind of encourages me to work out more!!

CK also provides many different charts. My favorite is the one that shows the percentage of fats, carbs, protein and fiber for the day... at least I think those are the categories - it has been so long! Anyway, there is a certain range you are supposed to be in for all of those and it keeps track and shows you... usually I get 1/2 way through the day and notice I need to eat less carbs and more protein!!

So I'm excited to fully start again... it has been kind of hard to motivate my mother and her husband though! I'm hoping that they will stick with me on it... it is SO much easier to do it when everyone does it - a lot less temptations around the house and more pressure to be "good."

Well. I have a feeling it is going to be harder than before. I really Really Reaaaaallly want to stick with it. I'm in a wedding in June and I need to look less like a house and more like a person! And I'm paying for a gym membership I haven't been using!!!!!! ugh!

Wish me luck. I need it.

Freeze Frame

I took a photography class in H.S. and another one in college. I did very well in both and really enjoy taking pictures. Though I honestly can never remember the technical terms, famous people and all that blah... I have recently decided that I would like to upgrade my camera. I'm currently using a point and shoot. It is a nice point and shoot, given to me by my grandpa when he upgraded to bigger and better but I want a camera that I can do a little more with.

So my goal is to upgrade to a digital SLR by the end of May (before my bff's wedding!) I'm looking to spend 500-600 dollars. I think it will be a good starting camera. I'm also toying with the idea of buying a used one for cheaper... anyone selling?

So, I have a few questions... and I know a few of you blogger out there are into photography (please help!)...

What brand should I be looking for? (I've really enjoyed my Olympus point and shoot)

Is there any features that I absolutely must have?

Do you have any other suggestions??

Election Eve Massacre

NaBloPoMo = National Blog Posting Month ... Check it out in the side bar --->

In other news...

I forgot to carve my pumpkins this year, so about 30 minutes before tricker treaters were due, I gave the two big ones sharpie faces and stuck them on the front porch. The little ones were decorations in the house. Today is Trash Day here in the neighborhood, so i decided to alter their faces and "sculls" for a great photo opportunity before tossing them out. I swiped the little ones of the counter gave them life... and took the whole family outside. They didn't see the knife I had hidden behind my back.... muhahaha.

Maid of Honor Duties

So as you may have read before - I am my friend Tiffany's Maid of Honor. I have little knowledge on the title.... seeing as I've only been to two weddings in my life, and I was too young to remember much of the first one! Lately I have been learning the duties and putting plans into action! Most recently the focus has been on the Bridal Shower. I have been trying to come up with invites and party favors so far... and games and food are in the back of my mind (it isn' until Jan.)

I searched the internet and stores for party favors... but lets face it - I'm too crafty (or think I am) to buy a pre-made cutesie little box. I visited the good ol' Dollar Tree the other day and foud a very cute wedding dress shaped party favor box. at $1 for 10... I couldn't resist. I purchased 3 packs and then went to Michaels in hope to find some materials to fancy them up a bit! I bought three different ribbons and little flower things to embellish the boxes.

Figuring out the costs... I came up with the rough estimate of each box- 43 cents. I did not figure in sales tax... but the fact that I have left over materials probably makes up for that! I think that is pretty good considering the cheapest somewhat cute ones I found on-line were 79 cents (plus shipping!) and they wern't as pretty as mine! Michaels has some premade ones too... but again...not as gorgeous and they had sets of 12 or 24 (I need 27ish and have 30 just in case!)

So I may have saved some money... but would you LOOK at that mess I have to clean up!! Yikes!
