Google: A Geocachers Best Friend

When I geocache, all I have is my super simple GPS. Sometimes I like to do more than one and it involves driving and a lot of remembering... but Google is there to save the day! I simply plug in the coordinates and put the GC#, size and any other hints in (parentheses ?) and head out! It is helpful for me to have those bits of information and a road map in hand.

I can input information into my GPS but with the actual unit it is a lengthy process. I can also hook the GPS to the computer and enter the info there... but I am running a Mac. There is some geocaching software out there for Macs - but I'm not going to pretend I understand them.

So Google it is!

Here is a little example I made for my sister in Florida. She is new to geocaching. You can click on the map and have a look around!
The bonus to google is Terrain view, Satellite view.
... and STREETVIEW! While it might not be up-to-date... you can look around if the cache is close to the street and guess where it might be ;-) you can also select non-toll roads as well as walking directions!

PS. That is not where my sister lives ;-)

DIY Rainbows

It is a B-E-A-UTIFUL day here in Tucson. In Cincinnati I would probably want to kill my self on a 90∘day, but not here. It truly is a 'dry' heat like they all say. The pool is still too chilly to enjoy, so I decided it was time for a car wash. While I was out I was having fun with my artificial rain and real sunshine I couldn't help but snap shots of these rainbows that popped out with every burst of water!

It Rhymes With --> LLAMA

I thought about not posting this.. but since I'm pretty sure this dude won't be back to my blog (which I'm OKAY with) I decided to post it.

I really want to know your opinion on the matter. Am I in the wrong? I would like to open the topic for discussion!

The following was in my inbox:

Hello. I am the CO (Cache Owner) of XXXXxxXXXX, which you recently found. I noticed on your profile that you have a link to another website on which you show pictures of caches and give detailed directions to where the cache is located. This is not cool, and is really going against the spirit and protocol of caching. It is one thing for someone who may have searched several times and can't find the cache to contact the CO for hints, but it is quite another for someone else to publish the information such as you have done. I know you are fairly new to caching, but wanted you to know.

Given that one of the caches that you had detailed is mine, XXXXXxxxXXXX, please remove the picture of cache and the instructions of it's location. Thanks.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

So I wrote back...

Sorry that you are bummed out by personal blog. But in all fairness I posted a warning that there may be spoilers:

"You can check out my blog here: but I must first warn you of spoilers. I post a lot of stuff there... including caches I find and caches I hide. I flat out show pictures of the caches and what not.... so visitor beware!"

I even avoided making it a click-able link.

I did not post your cache XXXxxXXX on my blog!!!! I posted a picture of a micro container that looks similar (I've found MANY of these). I blog about my life and as of right now, caching is it. I have found many other blogs that do this - and they go a step further by naming the cache and giving the GC# - which I don't do... unless I own the cache. I'm sorry that you feel this way, I will take it down if I receive more complaints.

The purpose of me posting is not to tell people where the caches are. I am simply sharing my hobby with the world. Given the information on my blog you still couldn't find these caches with out being on and loading the coordinates into a GPS.

So I've been thinking about it more... I don't think he should have sent me that e-mail! I mean I have see some logs that people write decrypted that flat out tell you WHERE it is. Also, how is it any different than people posting pictures in a log of them standing at the location holding up the cache? I try to avoid that on too!

I'm not trying to be mean or nasty by posting this. I really just want some opinions on the matter.... I will stop blogging about geocaching if it bothers everyone. You can see all of my geocaching posts HERE

UPDATE: Grumpy Cacher had the WRONG blog. Seriously if you want to send an e-mail like that... checking FACTS might be a good thing to do! DUH!
...but I still want your opinion on the matter ;-)

Friday Flashback - Don't Drop me Great Gramps!

I love this picture because there is very old and seemingly frail man holding a little baby. He's playing with this baby, tickling her tiny feet. Just loving his new great grandchild.

...The baby on the other hand...

Seems to be scared out of her fucking mind as she eyes the ground below. She is frantically calculating if she could survive the fall. This wrinkly white haired man holding her would have no chance of recovery. She fears her life as she sits nestled in the old mans arms.

...Fast forward a little bit...

The little girl, happy to have survived the first scare, suddenly becomes alarmed as the old man holding her starts making a horrible sound. Frightened, she quietly scoots off his lap, trying not to disturb the beast. For it would certainly end tragically.

...Fast forward even more...
The little girl, who can really rock a pair of Nike shoes, grows more confident in her great grandfathers grip. Her Great Grandpa never seemed to age as she grew up, I guess he always just looked "old" to her. She loved the large sheep dog stuffed animal he gave her... and loves the poem even more, now that she can read.

Though her great grandpa is no longer with her, he lived nearly a century and she cherishes the time she had with him. Even if that time was spent fearing for her life (I am totally kidding). She will never forget the two story doll house he built for her. The floors were not tall enough for her barbies but she loved the hinged roof, tiled kitchen, carpeted rooms, fake toilet in the bathroom, wall papered walls and full staircase. It didn't fit her toys but she managed to play with it all the time. It was absolutely perfect.

Miss you Great Grandpa!!

I <3 Stop Animation

Fun Facts:
* The video was shot all stills - roughly 3225 still photos for the entire video, using one camera, hanging from the ceiling for the main body of the movie.
* It took 4 weeks before shooting to create an animated computer generated storyboard for the video, with 3d dummies for the characters.
* It took only 2 days of shooting for the live actors on set to re-create the 3.5 minutes computer sequence, frame by frame.
* Some of the bed sheets used in the video were taken from Oren’s own bedroom and are now considered collectors items, worth at the moment not very much and therefore used as bed sheets.

My Purse has Nothing to Blog About

I've been racking my brain for something to write about for some time now. All of my recent posts have been about geocaching. In all honesty, not much has been going on in my life... I nanny, sleep, and geocache. All in a horribly repetitive pattern. Hopefully my life will become more exciting or something funny will happen soon so that I can entertain all of you. Now, when I say "all of you" I really mean all 5 subscribers. Meaning, all three of you... because I subscribe to my own blog - and so does my mom, and I LOVE you mom... but you don't count. you HAVE to read it (okay, I MAKE you.) :-/

Anyway. I clicked the "Classics" link in my side bar to read some of what I consider my "best" posts. And there are some really good ones... you should have a read!! I read, clicked "older posts" and read some more... I think I read all of them.

I found my What's in Your Purse Post that people were doing a while back and thought it would be interesting to compare my purse then, to my purse now.

Contents: Not 1, but 2 work name tags. Not 1, but two Crystal Light lemonade mixes. Not one but 2, lip glosses/chapsticks. Not 1, not 2, but 3 pens. Could I be more prepared for classes? A 5 dollar bill and change not it my wallet. My Wallet that doesn't match. (which is a whole different story - you should see the crap in there). A lip stick case. (That Striped thing... but its full of change). Pink eye shadow. A hair band. A cell phone. My car stereo face plate. A book. (The Man of My Dreams). A 16.9 oz Bottle or Aquafina Water. Tylenol.

NowContents: Not 1, not 2, but 3 tampons (could I be more prepared?). Not 1, 2, 3 or 4 pens, but 5 (what? why?). Change purse. Wallet. 2 chapsticks. Gum. 2 Lotions. a Calendar book I used for like a week. A moist towelette. Papers, including an expired coupon and my babysitting schedule. A tooth brush and toothpaste (Left in there from when I was traveling, and it never made its way out).

In conclusion
Vary similar purses style wise and from the same place (Target). The only thing that is the same is multiple chapsticks, pens and a wallet!

...So exciting, but not really....

Making MORE shirts...

... I made this shirt for my mom... another one for Dan is on the next on my "To Do List."

This is the actual logo...Sara (my sister)... you will get one as soon as you start Geocaching :-) So GO!

I Make.

I've been wanting to buy a geocaching shirt for sometime now. They are about 15 dollars on the website but when you add shipping - I'm thinking 20 bucks I don't want to spend. So I spent less, and made two shirts! The colors are much better too. I made one for myself (ErikaJean) and one for my sister (SwanLi). Mine is a bit crooked on the front... but I don't mind, is will just get dirty while geocaching anyway!

No One Guessed.

Well......Oh don't you worry that is a fake pile of poo. It is a geocache! There is a little container glued to the bottom. Oh, and this is HOMEMADE fake poo. Now, before you get your panties in a bunch, I didn't make it the old fashioned way - it's clay!

...On a much more pleasant note. I saw this guy while out caching today... He let me get about 10-15 ft away from him. Thank goodness too, becuase I don't have a high-powered zoom ;-)

I went to retrieve my "Needle in a Haystack" cache so that I could place it in a new location. I needed to move it because someone told me there was going to be construction...

I was so sad when I saw my cache:

Either someone cut at it or something chewed on it (more likely), though I didn't see many scratch/chew marks and it was perfectly in place.... the needles pull out fairly easy, but as you can see some have been sliced off at their stems. :-(

So it looks like I will not be replacing this cache. Too bad to.... 'cause it was AWESOME (and only 8 people found it).

Click HERE if you want to see the cache in its prime and original location.

Geocaching. A Video!

We have this one geocaching team that hides super-hard caches (for me anyway). They love these tiny ones and are very creative. They hid both of these caches I found today!

I hope your not getting too sick of my geocaching posts, it's all I ever do anymore! ;-)

Subscribe? What does that mean?
Well, basically it is like having a subscription to a magazine. Most people who subscribe to a blog are avid bloggers that read multiple blogs a day.

Why do it?
It saves you from visiting all the blogs you read every day to see if they have new content. When you subscribe you use a reader - you visit the reader and it tells you what blogs have recently updated. And even then, you don't have to visit the blogs... you can read all the new posts right then and there. After you read them... they disappear until there is more content!

Okay where do I get a reader?
Since I honestly don't know much about what is out there... I highly recommend what I use ;-) I use Google Reader. You have to have an account... but I'm sure it will come in handy. Google has a lot of cool services out there... my favorite being g-mail. Anyway, it's quick and easy to sign up and the reader is very simple and easy to use.

Okay, I have a reader. How do I subscribe??
If you are using the Google Reader ... Click this ---> Add to Google Reader or Homepage
If you are using a different reader ... click this ---> Subscribe in a reader

Well I'm not an avid blogger, I only read a few blogs... now what?
In that case I have the perfect thing for you. You can subscribe to my blog by e-mail! All you have to do is click the picture below, enter your e-mail address, then click the confirm link in the e-mail you get.

Okay. Done. Now what does that do?
You will receive and e-mail everyday I have posted new content. So there is no need to come by and wait for the page to load to see if I've posted anything new! You e-mail is not shared with me... so sign up now!
