The little girl I watch has recently gotten into playing with Play-Doh. She loves rolling it out and cutting it with a plastic knife. Sadly, She only has one mini pink container and it's really starting to dry out. I thought about buying her some more, but hey, I'm a nanny - not a millionaire! So I went online and found and easy recipe. There are a TON of different ways to making Play-Doh, so I just picked the first one. Recipe here.

The Faux-Doh turned out great. I only have a coupe complaints... my arms are tired from all the stirring & kneading and my hands are pink and blue ;-)

I used neon food coloring, and the colors are perfectly vibrant.

We made a few "monsters" and hardened them in the oven.... The hardening didn't work all that well. I baked them at 300 degrees for 30 min. as someone said they did in the comments to the Faux-Doh instructions. It might have been becuase our monsters were a bit on the thick side... but they kind of oozed out the middles and are now a tad squishy and seem hollow. They look great though!

Glue on eyes after baking!

I did this one!

The Garlic press is great for monster hair.

Garlic Press

Apparently it is pretty entertaining too. The little one played with it forever.

Have you ever made your own Faux-Doh? Do you remember playing with it/Play-Doh as a kid? I do!

Can't you just smell the Play-Doh now!?

  1. I'm a firm believer in the fact that a kid doesn't need anything fancy to have fun! I love your colors and am glad she had fun.

  2. I distinctly remember trying to eat the homemade stuff as a kid, but the salt was too much even for me. I don't know what this says about me.

Your colours are WAY cooler than any of the stuff I've played with/tried to make. I love it!

  3. oh yeah! as soon as i saw the word PLAY DOH...i couldn't get that unmistakable scent to go away...

    and REALLY BRIGHT colors...very cool...

  4. hai hai ...erika . may i do reads this pages . thanks

  5. Love those colors!

We have a good supply of play-doh right now, but when it dries up I usually make it myself. Flour, salt, water, vegetable oil, and food coloring.

  6. Cute!

My mom used to make it for us. I should try making it for my little guy.
