Well. I woke up, on 3 hrs of sleep... to move my car out of the way for my mom. After I move it, I walk back to the house when I hear a strange sound.

"WTF is that?" I think to myself.

I expect to see some weird military plane (we get all kinds of stuff living near a base)...Well, I was wrong.

I look up and see the bottom of a basket and a little flame, RIGHT OVER MY HEAD... and LOW too. I BOLT into the house screaming "There's hot air balloon RIGHT over the house!" My mother has NO idea what I said and tries to make sense of the situation as I frantically grab my camera and she follows me outside.

I manged to grab a few pictures, none of which show you how close the thing actually was when I first saw it...

But man, did that wake me up!

And here is another hot air balloon on another morning...

Is it weird that I'm fascinated with the weeds in the backyard?

That I find them rather... beautiful.

I love all the intricate lines.

And little fuzzy hairs.

Not to mention, the flowers.

The Early Bird Gets the Worm

Like I said in my last post, I got up early for some caching Saturday. There are a couple advantages to getting up early for geocaching.
  • It is typically (though not in the summer here) cooler out. I was comfortable in sweats and a zip-up hoodie the whole time I was out yesterday morning. It was great.
  • The muggle factor seems to be lower. I grabbed a cache that I previously couldn't find. It was missing the first time I tried, but I felt more comfortable looking in the morning... when traffic was light and business weren't open.
  • The lighting. I love the light in the morning, even if my photos(or me) don't capture it well ;-)

  • It's peaceful! The birds are chirpin' and the bunnies are scurrying. If you're lucky, you'll have the whole trail to your self. I didn't see soul while I was out grabbing my caches Saturday.
The Path
  • More time to cache! Yes it's true, the earlier you get up... the more time you have for caching (the whole day??). Although, I only went after 3 yesterday.
  • If you have any early caching advantages please feel free to add them in the comments.

Caching in the Morning

I decided to get up early when it was still nice and cool to go grab a couple caches and get a little walk in. I ended up with three finds for the day.

Cache Cache Cache

What is that?

AHHHHHHhhhhh. Ew ew ew EWWWw.

I took this picture when I first opened the cache. I then proceeded to pick the log up, get the cache out and the replace it. Replacing it was hard too, I really jostled it around.... and I NEVER realized there was a big honkin' blood sucking deadly spider there!

Okay. It's not really deadly, I just hate spiders!

I took some pretty pictures while on my walk. I promise to share... just as soon as this creepy crawly feeling goes away!

Growth Update

Just a month ago, my plants were sprouting. They've come a long way since then, but still no flowers... or even buds.

Friday Flashback - Johnny's Toys

When we were kids, and our birthday's were approaching we'd eagerly check the mailbox every day for our Johnny's Toys birthday card. We didn't care about the card so much - it was the key on the inside we wanted!

One we got the key, we'd be our mom to take us to the toy store so we could unlock the castle door and pick our prize!

Of course, once we got older are realized all the keys were the same. They didn't actually unlock the door. Really, our keys were just a ticket for a free cheap toy... we stopped getting keys in the mail around this time.... But still, such a cool place when we were kids!

Lost and Found

My dad still lives in the house I grew up in. There is, and always has been this big bush along the driveway.

Well, He was doing some trimming and look what he found...

One of my old soccer balls! That thing had probably been there for yearssss!

Ps. Thanks dad for the pictures I stole ;-P

Twitter isn't completely useless.... Look, free shirts!

I got these free shirts for tweeting @Bluecotton, when they said they we going to give free shirts to the first few people that tweeted them. I was lucky enough to be one of those people!

So why not follow @Bluecotton? They tweet pictures of the shirts they've printed - which are pretty neat... and you never know, they might give away something again :-D

Oh, and if you ever need a custom shirt, visit their site... the shirts are great quality, nice and thick!

PS. No one told me to write this, I'm just excited about free shirts!

Spiny Lizard

I feel like I haven't had much to say here lately. Hopefully I'll do something this weekend and have something to report on! I've been trying to focus on eating better and getting some exercise in... so between that and babysitting I've been staying busy.

It's starting to warm up here in the desert and I'm starting to see all kinds of birds and lizards outside my bedroom window.

Here's a Spiny Lizard I caught(just in a photo) the other day.

I think it's a female... See how the head is a little red?

Have you ever Waterpik-ed your teeth? It's amazing how much crap brushing does NOT get...

My dentist has told me it does not replace good ol' dental floss... but I really really like my Waterpik. I usually brush, pik then floss ;-)

Anyway, just thought I'd profess my love of the Waterpik!

And yes, that was a really random post.

Titan Missile Museum

After getting annoyed by few caches I couldn't find on Saturday I decided to go for a virtual and kill some time. The virtual geocache was in Green Valley at the Titan Missile Museum. You don't have to go in or go on a tour to get the information to claim the cache - but If I'm there and I have time I like to experience all that I can!

<span class=

I'll be honest, I didn't really know much about the place before going. Ha, I didn't even know it was underground! So, I'm glad I went on the tour. It was pretty interesting and I learned a few things!

Basically the site was one of 54 nuclear missile launch/housing sites build during the cold war. In 1982 all sites but this one were destroyed. In is in no way active and today, serves only as a museum.

Bart, our tour guide. He worked at a a different missile site when they were active back in the day. Today he volunteers and gives awesome tours!

<span class=
This is the command center. It took 4 people to run the site and they worked in pairs. they could only be alone in the crew quarters. Everywhere else was a "No lone zone."

The walk to the missile... where I didn't get any decent shots ;-)

Now for a random Titan Missile Museum fact, that only people like my dad would appreciate (Hi Dad!)
  • Several scenes in the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact were shot at the site. The missile itself was depicted to be the launch vehicle for the film's Phoenix spacecraft.

Happy Easter Eggs

I had to make Easter eggs when I saw this tutorial.

So fun!!

Postcrossing Sunday - Belarus

This was a tiny postcard, so I included my hand for reference!

The English is a little... broken.

In my postcrossing profile I ask people to tell me a hidden talent as an idea for something to write. Apparently this guy's talent is pickin' up chicks!

I'm Not That Dedicated

I went out and got a few caches this morning. I had a lot more planned but got frustrated pretty early on, so I cut it short.

The very first cache I went to was at a park... where an Easter egg hunt was being held. I didn't even bother getting out of the car to look for that one! My second DNF was at another park where again, an Easter egg hunt was being held. Enough with the Easter egg hunts people... you're ruining my day! I did get out of the car for that one though, but the cache was so high (the hint says "bring a tall friend"), I would have had to do some climbing and reaching for it. I definitely would have looked like I was up to something.

In my opinion, caches at a very public park should be in a spot where you can grab it with out looking like your up to something. They should also be away from the bathrooms and play areas. It's much better if you can hit up the outskirts of the park, away from the masses.

Maybe I'm a little grumpy today... but the best rule of thumb is if you would yell at your kid for standing on the top of a picnic table or climbing a support pillar, you probably shouldn't be doing it either... at least where/when other people are around ;-)

I guess technically I could have a grabby tool with me... but lets face it... I'm not THAT dedicated. Anyway, I still get a bunch of odd looks and I'd totally blow the cache location.

I guess that's what I get for planning a day of quick grabs.... I knew I should have gone for a cache that required a hike!
