My First Thoughts Geocaching Challenges

Geocaching Challenges are off and running over on As soon as I noticed they were there - I accepted and completed my first challenge.

The challenge was to "Kiss a Frog." (It has since been archived, and I can't link to it)

So I did.

I Kissed a Frog and I Liked it.
Challenge complete!

I've browsed some of challenges. Some seem great... and some seem... eh, well they could used some work. I definitely think the Challenges still need a bit of refining and there doesn't seem to be much of a review process, other than being able to flag the challenge and vote it down.

I am excited to see what happens with them and see what future challenges people come up with... There are no current challenges in my area - perhaps I will come up with a few myself!

  1. I don't really like the challenges. The take a picture one is like a virtual, but I think it can be really abused and turn into waymarking, which I find to be lame. The action challenges also have the potential of completing without actually being there and doing it unless there is a verification system. I dislike the locationless challenges. I don't think I'll beeping it at all.

  2. Heck with the Challenges, this picture of you kissing the frog is, well, coming from someone whom has no other intentions, freaking HOT! You must make it your avatar! Look'n good girl....Keep it up:-)

You don't have to post this if you think it's weird. Just a complement, good job!

  3. I'm open to see how the challenges work. We've completed the Take A Hike Challenge at Watkins Glen State Park and have submitted our first challenge. Our first challenge "find" was a lot of fun. I hope they are successful.

  4. Team GeoFrog: I totally understand your view point! I too find waymarking a bit on the lame side!

Cloodhounded: It's all about getting the right angle! hahah.... and it's only a head shot ;-) But thanks for the compliment!

Miatabug: I want to do a hike one too! still a bit toasty hear I'm afraid :-( What is your challenge that out submitted?

  5. I know I don't comment much, but I still read everything. I felt compelled to comment this time, just to tell you how gorgeous you look in that photo. Yeah, yeah it's supposed to be about the challenges, but still. I don't know if it's the lighting or your eyes or both maybe....but it's a really pretty picture of you. <3

  6. Our first challenge is to stand under Cavern Cascade at Watkins Glen. The gorge trail passes under the cascade so visitors can walk behind the waterfall. Unless there's been little rain most people get somewhere between a little wet and soaked. The CX Code is CXE8C. Here's the link:

If you like it, please give it a thumbs up. There seems to be a number of cachers voting down every challenge. I've been voting up all the local ones that seem interesting whether we will do them or not. I figure if someone wants to do them, they should have the chance.

We have our second challenge planned, take a photo from the top of a nearby fire tower.

  7. @Miatabug: You got it. Thumbs up! That looks like a worthy challenge. If I was a little close I'd accept and complete it.

  8. @Jessi: Thanks! you are too kind ;-)

  9. Personally, I think they rushed them out and didn't think a ton about them. The idea is decent, the way it's out there is bad. Too many things need to be fixed. I hope they do as I think it could be a good thing, but as of right now I'm not optimistic.
