Bird Bath

In an effort to keep the birds away from the plants, I have provided them with their own source of water. I've made them a bird bath from the saucer of a terracotta planter and some old stepping stones.

As you can see, I also added some netting to the Ice plants they were devouring!

You have to paint this kind of bird bath, otherwise the water will soak right through. I started out with a white acrylic base and was just going to leave it at that.... but I couldn't help myself. I had to add some color.

Water Colors

Painting has never been one of my strong points, but I think it looks OK. After the acrylic paint dried for 24 hours, I added a clear coat with spray paint and let it dry another day. Then, I added water...
I have to fill it everyday, It evaporates so quickly....It's 107.7* right now and it is only gettin' hotter!

So maybe that makes this more of a bird hot tub rather than a bath?

  1. It turned out cute! I would be melting in those temps. It's in the low 70's here.
